Temple Beth El opened its doors in 1957 when its first service was held in a meeting room of the Hollywood Beach Hotel. At that time, the congregation boasted approximately two dozen families, all of whom had a vision - a traditional Reform congregation in the heart of Hollywood. Through the generosity and dedication of several of these families, Temple Beth El became a reality and grew into the focal point of Reform Judaism in southern Broward County.
As a Reform congregation, and a member of the Union for Reform Judaism, Temple Beth El is devoted to the ideal of freedom to creatively celebrate our beliefs and explore our heritage. Temple Beth El provides a variety of opportunities for its members to do so.
Temple Beth El has become a progressive congregation, blending Jewish values, ethics, music and traditions into a house of worship and community. Temple Beth El is a place to worship, learn, share, and to grow. It offers the best of two worlds, as the young join with the more senior to create a community of warmth and caring. All are welcome into the congregational family with the knowledge that Temple Beth El will help to nourish the spirit and bring peace and fulfillment.
Membership at Temple Beth El is a partnership between the congregant and the congregation. Temple Beth El promises to provide for the spiritual, religious, educational and social needs of its congregational family, and members promise to care for Temple Beth El through their regular participation and by means of their financial support.
