Spring ‘25/Summer ‘25

The Boys of Summer

As many of you know, I like music a little.  And in nearly all life scenarios I find myself a part of..of any consequence, songs that relate to the situation (at least in my head) play like a soundtrack in my mind.  This time of year my head is filled with summer songs that I grew up with.  “Magic” by The Cars, “Summer of 69”, Bryan Adams, “Centerfield” John Fogerty, “Boys of Summer”, Don Henley.  And the list goes on.

Now that our LONG South Florida summer is upon us, new opportunities arise.  After work for example, the days are more than long enough to visit the beach after work to let Laney run around in the sand, and catch the amazing afterglow of sunset.  Even facing east, the various shades of afterglow…Pink, Orange and shades in between….illuminate the clouds over the Atlantic as a unique afterglow of the actual sun setting in the west “over” the Everglades.

It occurs to me as I sit here at a lovely coffee shop, that there is always an afterglow to life’s occurrences.  Sometimes of course, it is a more pleasant effect than others.    Some might say that a hangover from a night of having too much “fun”…could be the opposite of afterglow.   Here at Beth El of Hollywood, that is NOT the type of effect we long to have on your lives.  Rather, we long to leave you with an afterglow that feels like the Pink & Orange clouds of a Florida summer sunset.  Pleasant on the palette.  Making you smile, leaving you fulfilled.  Learning something new, being entertained, inspired…meeting a new friend.  This is the type of atmosphere we strive to achieve in our community.

We’ve had some GREAT programs these past few months.  Our collaboration on Yom Hashoah with Temple Sinai, Klezmer and Gospel Shabbat, Wonderful guest speakers, Mitzvah Day, an amazing 2nd night Seder and 2nd Saturdays on the lawn to name just a few.  We’re planning some exciting enhancements to our programs for next year, and I so very much hope we’ll see you here at Beth El.  Meanwhile, play ball!

Blessings to you and yours,

Jeff
