Winter ‘26/Spring

YOU KNOW springtime is right around the corner when we start thinking about the holiday of Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew!

Passover is a holiday of eternal hope and optimism … just like the season of spring. The relationship between spring and Passover is not just chronological, being that it always falls in the springtime, but is also deeply symbolic.

Spring represents “the rebirth” of the earth after the “death” of winter (even here in Florida where thankfully we don't get ice and snow). And just as seeds break through the soil in spring, the Jewish people broke through the constraints of slavery at Passover to emerge as a free people.

Some Passover rituals are interpreted as a form of “spiritual spring cleaning,” like the removal of chametz (leavened bread) from the house. Just as we rid our homes of physical crumbs, we are encouraged to remove all vestiges of pride and stagnation from our egos at this time of year to achieve a heightened state of spiritual renewal.

May we all have a joyous Passover this year and give thanks for our freedom!
