Spring ‘25/Summer ‘25

Let me share with you a few wonderful moments we experienced at the Jewish Learning Center this school year. Besides the amazing snacks – I remember a time when we were fed stale animal crackers – we continued to make lifelong friendships and learn about our rich cultural and religious heritage.

An event that stands out in my head is the Chocolate Seder. Wow! So, when I looked at the calendar and saw the way the holidays and Broward County Public Schools calendar were non-aligned, it caused panic in my mind. The only option was to ask for families to come to TBE on a weeknight after school. So many of you came and participated! We even celebrated a birthday! And then there was the community seder that we celebrated and JLC students were asked to chant the Four Questions and they dominated! I was so proud of all of them, several happy tears were shed.

Thinking about Lag B’Omer also brings me joy! We all had a great afternoon as a community, and when I asked Brotherhood to grill, they didn’t even think twice and we enjoyed some great hotdogs. I also think about how the Miller men all diligently assembled our Little Free Library, which will eventually greet our preschool families. Our JLC is truly a mishpucha (family).

Talking about family, next year, we will continue to grow our JLC family and continue to share in memorable experiences that we will take with us into the future. Some ideas that are percolating are kayaking, an overnight, an after-Sunday school meet-up, and so many more!

If you know of a high school student who would like to earn service hours while performing mitzvot, please encourage them to contact me. When our teens take the lead in Jewish education, it becomes more meaningful for our children. Just ask them – they will tell you. I am also interested in starting up a Confirmation class of 10th through 12th grade students.

Lastly, if your children have Jewish friends that don’t go to Sunday school yet, please send them my way! To this day, I am still friends with my Hebrew school friends. I spoke to another friend who mentioned that all of her bridesmaids were from her days as a preschooler at TBE. These lifelong friendships and connections to our faith are what make our Jewish Learning Center special. Help me to create these magical experiences for our kids.

B’ruach (with spirit),

Barb
